It’s Been a While, Here is an Update

Procrastination and a bit of Work

Hello everyone. It’s been a while. I’ve been meaning to provide an update on Project: EnAble for quite some time. Unfortunately, I am a professional procrastinator. I also have quite the busy life. However! I am excited to share a few things, some personal, and some about Project: EnAble. We’ll start with the personal updates.

What Have I Been Doing???

As many know, Project: EnAble started out as a high school engineering project. With years of development, Project: EnAble attended the worlds largest science and engineering fair, the International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) in 2022 (Atlanta). This was monumental for Project: EnAble. Not only that, in 2023, Project: EnAble participated in NCSSS, a student research program in Chicago, Illinois.

Needless to say, Project: EnAble has had a lot of accomplishments!

However, since May of 2023, Project: EnAble has sat dormant, for the most part. There have been some improvements I’ve made, however, I have not published them.

I’ve been attending school for Computer Engineering, as well as Business Analysis. I’ve also been working full time and managing my own company, Jeron Osg (this will be mentioned later). Needless to say, I’m a busy guy.

Project Developments and Changes

Although I am a busy guy, I did make some developments and changes to the project. So lets dive into those.

Project Acquisition

Project: EnAble was started by myself, Jeron Osguthorpe. For years now, it has operated as it’s own “entity” under ownership of Jeron Osguthorpe (myself). In June 2024, I started my own company, Jeron Osg. Jeron Osg was originally just for my photography and web design services. However, Jeron Osg has now become a Media and Development company. What does this mean for Project: EnAble?

Project: EnAble has now been added into the Jeron Osg family of companies (trademarks). Project: EnAble is now under development of the company (currently just me), rather than just myself. This means, that Project: EnAble has abandoned its hopes of being a registered non-profit and is a part of a for-profit business. However, Project: EnAble’s mission and goals have not changed. We still strive to show how the world can bee more accessible.

How is this good for Project: EnAble? Project: EnAble can no more reliably be developed. If Project: EnAble and/or Jeron Osg grow as a business, than more development (and possibly employees) can work on the project. This is great for Project: EnAble and promises more growth! This also means that it will be easier to make changes to the project, as I will not have to focus on them being completely different entities (if that makes sense).

This does mean there will be some changes. See below!

Privacy Policy Update

I have updated the Project: EnAble Privacy Policy. The Privacy Policy remained the same, for the most part, but with some added clarification and notice of acquisition. Project: EnAble has it’s own Privacy Policy and does NOT operate based on Jeron Osg’s Privacy Policy (see Privacy Policy for more details). As always, if you do not like these changes, you can request for access, adjustment, or deletion of your data here.

What Won’t Change?

Project: EnAble is still dedicated to being open source. Project: EnAble, although not classified as a non-profit, will still run on a non-profit basis. If you would like to see transactions related to Project: EnAble, you can contact us here. You can still find Project: EnAble on GitHub, and you can still download the repositories, alongside our included Prosthetic Arm build.

What May Be Sold?

Although we still run on a non-profit basis, we still take donations. We may also, in the future, sell other design concepts of Project: EnAble, such as prosthetic legs, and more. Of course, or Prosthetic Arm build will be available to download and make yourself. In the future, you may be able to purchase your own prosthetics devices. Of course, all sales will be 100% re-invested into Project: EnAble and NO OTHER PARTS OF JERON OSG.

What Is New?

Project: EnAble Rebranding

Project: EnAble is eventually going to be rebranded. This is to better classify what Project: EnAble actually is, as well as be different (there are TONS of projects called Project Enable). This will be happening in the near future, so be sure to keep an eye out for that.

Project: EnAble v4.0

The version of the project that has been in development…for 2 years. This is still in development, but I have a LOT of HUGE changes that will be coming. Currently I am designing a better arm system and will be shifting to developing the Arduino side of things more. Raspberry Pi will still be developed in Python for v4.

Eventually, I want to combine the version of the project in to one code, C. This will allow for more similarities between the projects, and hopefully, functionality. I will also be doing more electrical engineering work that will allow for less strain on the micro-computers and greater efficency.

Project: EnAble Mobile App

As many know, the Project: EnAble Mobile App was a HUGE part of the v3 release. This allowed for users to control their prosthetics through their android devices. This was released in June 2023.

I’m happy to announce that when v4 is released, a new version of the Project: EnAble Mobile App will be released as well! This will greatly increase functionality, user interface and connectivity with Project: EnAble. The Project: EnAble Mobile App will still only be compatible with the Raspberry Pi version (for now).

That’s About It

I know this isn’t the most engaging or exciting post. However, I’m happy to provide updates. I’m sorry there aren’t any pictures or anything to release alongside this. I just don’t feel that it is time yet. Until the next update!
